hiking {blue job mountain}

Two weeks ago, Dan and I were supposed to to an intro rock climbing class but it got canceled because of the stormy and rainy weather. Since we were up so early and all ready to go, we decided to find a quick hike to do before the weather got bad. So we headed over to Blue Job Mountain. It was only about a half hour drive and it was a relatively quick hike. It was foggy and a little rainy so there wasn’t much of a view. But there was something about the foggy weather that made it calm and peaceful.

It was a lovely, quick Saturday morning hike and a wonderful way to start our weekend.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

hiking {bald knob & turtleback}

A couple weekends ago Dan and I decided to go for a hike. We headed to Bald Knob for the hike because it wouldn’t be too long of a hike. The trail was nice, not too steep or crazy but just hard enough to make the view worth it. Part of the way up there was some really cool columnar jointing. Nature amazes me sometimes. When we got towards the top, there was this amazing view alongside the trail. I wish all trails were like that all the way up the mountain.

When we got to the top, Dan kept saying how he wished there was an easier way to get up to Turtleback since it was right behind where we were. We saw some people head towards it but we weren’t sure there was a trail. I looked it up online and found that someone had written something about a newer trail. So we decided to check it out. The trail was kind of there but wasn’t very worn. But it was there enough for us to find our way to the top of Turtleback. The view wasn’t as good and was pretty much some other mountains but it was nice to get another peak in.

When we got back to the bottom of Bald Knob, we decided to go down a side trail to check out a waterfall. It was totally worth the extra bit of hiking.

All in all it was a great morning of hiking with my favorite hiking partner.

Hope you guys are having a great week!

hiking {belknap & gunstock}

A few weeks ago we decided to go hiking with a couple of our friends. It was our first hike of the season so we wanted to do something that wasn’t too difficult. Dan chose Belknap and we were able to do Gunstock easily along with Belknap.

We all met up early in the morning and drove up together. It was a beautiful day and trail was really cool. On our way up we saw a  couple really cool spider webs that were pretty much perfect circles tucked in to parts of the trail. I’m not a big fan of spiders but I thought the webs were pretty amazing. At the top of Belknap there is an old fire tower, which you have to climb to get any kind of view. The climb is a little sketchy but the view from the top is pretty good.

From the top of Belknap, we took a side trail to the top of Gunstock. There were a few people at the top of Gunstock who had ridden the gondola up to the top. There was a pretty view from the top. From there, we headed back down to the car. There were a lot of cool stone steps that had been put into the trail down to make it easier.

Overall, it was a great first hike of the season. Not too hard but also not too easy. There were some great views and some great time spent with friends!
